Deacon Peter has been a member of OMOS for over 20 years. He came to Tucson in 1990 and left to take care of his mother in 2013. He returned to Tucson in 2023. He was ordained in December 2018, while living in Birmingham, Alabama and has enjoyed serving the OMOS community since September 2023 after transferring from the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama.Dn. Peter has been married for over 25 years. He and Kim have 5 children and 19 grandchildren. He enjoys working out, golfing, teaching and playing chess. Dn. Peter retired from Tucson Air National Guard after serving 27 years of service in 2013. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in theology from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH. He graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University after studying 4 years at the University of Alabama, with a BS degree in Professional Aeronautics and a minor in management, he also holds an Associate’s Degree in Aircraft Management. He is a licensed Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic, and he holds a teacher’s certificate as an Aerospace Science Instructor for High School AFJORTC. He is a retired Religion Teacher from Holy Family Cristo Rey Catholic Hight School, and a Certified Athletic Director in the state of Alabama. He was raised as the youngest of 4 boys by a Catholic mother and father, who converted to Catholicism, from Fairfield, AL. He grew up attending St Mary’s and Holy Family Catholic school in Birmingham, AL. He joined the Airforce in 1984 as a Tactical Aircraft Fighter Jet Mechanic Crew Chief. He retired from Tucson Air National Guard in 2013 as a Senior Master Sergeant (E-8). He met his wife, Kim Smith, in Tucson, AZ and was married at OMOS by Father Charlie Knapp. They raised 5 children in the faith. He currently teaches Teen Sacraments at OMOS and helps with various other duties. My desire is to continue my work as an Ordained Catholic Deacon and do God’s work.
